Danish Rye Bread (¨Rugbrød¨)
Rye bread is an very common and extremely healthy lunch and holiday bread in Denmark. It is traditionally eaten as an open-faced sandwich; the bread itself is thinly sliced then topped with mayo or butter, various meats, different vegetables, various cold salads, and liver paté. In Denmark, rye bread comes in many different varieties, and with or without many different seeds.
Made with fresh milled rye flour, it is also made with sourdough as well as pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and rye berries that soak overnight.
This is a very dense and nutty bread.
It is most easily stored in the freezer in precut slices to be toasted and enjoyed throughout the week.
Sold in half or whole loaves.
